What to Expect: In-Home Newborn Session

Congratulations! I'm thrilled to capture these precious moments with your newborn in the comfort of your home. My style is Lifestyle photography, focusing on natural, beautiful moments that reflect this special time in your life. Here's what you can expect during our session:

Preparing for the Session

When I arrive around 9:30 am, I'll take a quick tour of your home to find the best-lit areas for our photos. Common spots include the couch, master bedroom, and nursery. Please don't worry about tidying up beforehand; we can adjust and clean up as needed for the photos.

Your Newborn

Your baby is perfect just as they are. I don't pose newborns in unnatural ways or try to make them sleep. I recommend dressing your baby in a simple, form-fitting onesie without graphics or words, usually in preemie or newborn sizes. If you have a special outfit, we can incorporate that too. We might also take some natural or near-nude photos, so having a few favorite swaddle blankets on hand is helpful.

Feeding your baby about 15 minutes before our session starts can help them feel comfortable and content. Our session will be baby-led, meaning we'll follow your newborn's cues, whether they're alert or asleep. The goal is to capture the natural beauty of this fleeting time in your lives.

Siblings

Introducing a new baby to the family is a big change for siblings. I have four children myself, so I understand the dynamics and challenges this can bring. We'll aim to capture sibling and family photos early in the session, as younger siblings may lose interest quickly. It's best to prepare them by letting them know that a friend is coming over to take some family photos, avoiding any surprises.

Mom and Dad

Welcoming a new baby can be both exhilarating and exhausting. As a mother, I understand the range of emotions you're likely experiencing. My aim is to document the genuine beauty of this time, without any pressure to appear perfect. Just be yourselves, and I'll take care of the rest.

Wardrobe Tips

Comfort and neutral colors are key when choosing outfits. If your bedroom is bright, consider wearing colors like navy or greens to avoid a washed-out look in photos. I also welcome breastfeeding moments, so keep that in mind when selecting your attire.

Final Preparations

Please send me photos of your master bedroom, nursery, and living room in the morning light. This helps me plan the session and make the most of the natural lighting available.

Let me know once your baby arrives so we can schedule your session, ideally 7-14 days after delivery. I can't wait to capture these beautiful moments with your family! If you have any questions or special requests, feel free to reach out.
