What to Expect: In-Home Family Session

Welcome! Here's a guide to help you prepare for your in-home family photography session with me, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable experience that captures the true spirit of your family.

Choosing the Best Time for Your Session

Morning light is often ideal for in-home sessions, providing a soft and natural glow that highlights your home's warmth and charm. However, we'll choose the session time based on your home's unique lighting and your family's routine, ensuring the best possible environment for your photos.

Session Duration

Our session will typically last around one hour. This allows us to capture a variety of moments without making anyone feel rushed or tired. It's a comfortable timeframe, especially for young children, who may need time to warm up to the camera.

What to Wear: Neutral Colors and Home Aesthetics

Neutral colors are recommended for clothing, as they photograph beautifully and don't distract from your family's expressions and interactions. Consider your home's color palette when selecting your outfits to create a cohesive and visually pleasing result. This harmony between attire and surroundings enhances the overall feel of the photographs.

Your Children: Natural, Relaxed, and Playful

Children often respond best to a relaxed and playful environment. Rather than instructing them to pose or smile, we'll allow them to be themselves. Don't worry if they're running around or busy exploring; some of the most beautiful images come from these candid moments.

Creating a Positive Experience

To make the session enjoyable for everyone, aim for a "yes day" approach. Encourage your children's creativity and enjoy their ideas, and don't hesitate to snuggle and interact with them. This helps create a joyful atmosphere and results in more natural and heartfelt photos. I often find that some of the best moments happen when parents are simply engaging with their children, so try to minimize discipline unless necessary for safety.

Capturing Family Moments

For family shots, I usually suggest that adults simply "be" with the children—holding them, talking, or playing together. This natural interaction often leads to the most genuine and touching images. If you ever feel like you need more direction or have specific ideas, please don't hesitate to let me know. This session is a collaborative effort, and your comfort and satisfaction are my priorities.

To help your child feel comfortable, let them know in advance that a friend, Miss Tilly, will be visiting to take some photos. This way, they'll be more prepared and at ease during the session.

I look forward to creating wonderful memories with your family. If you have any questions or special requests, please feel free to reach out!
